Stillness and Meditation
Through the practice of stillness and meditation you can dramatically increase your level of inner peace, confidence, contentment and clarity of mind for use in everyday living.
The introductory philosophy course explores the idea of self-awareness with the help of a very simple mindfulness exercise. This is developed throughout the course with other useful practices, such as pausing between actions.
For those who wish to learn more, mantra-based meditation is discussed. This is where a single sound or word is gently repeated in the mind and can be practiced anywhere, including at home sitting quietly in an ordinary chair.
The mantra works to gradually settle the body, mind and spirit, freeing them from unnecessary activity and agitation. Students commonly report that the result is a sense of peacefulness, even bliss, that may carry on into daily life.
Opportunities to learn mantra meditation and practice in a group setting are given.
Free ongoing care and support is offered for meditation as long as you want it, even if you stop attending courses.
Still-Point Tuesdays: free lunchtime stillness and meditation sessions
In our busy world constant activity without the chance of repose drains our resources physically and mentally.
To help address this we are offering 10 free Tuesday lunchtime stillness and meditation sessions over 11 weeks (one week off for half-term) from Tuesday 5th May at Athene House, 13 Addiscombe Grove, Croydon from 12.45pm – 1.30pm.
These sessions are open to anyone already practicing meditation or stillness/mindfulness exercises or who would like to be introduced to a simple stillness exercise.
We open the session with readings, introduce the exercise and then allow a quiet time of practice in conducive surroundings. There will be an opportunity to ask any questions.
The sessions are open to all and are offered on a 'drop-in' basis so there is no need to commit to attend the whole series.
